Best in Show 2023!

These vehicles took Best In Show at the 11th annual DeutscheMarques German car show.

And there are always great stories that come from DM.
Consider, for example, the Best In Show Audi (lower left).
Owner Kal pulled into an Elkhart gas station yesterday morning. Kal owns a first generation (2012) Audi R8. At the next pump was a gen two R8 (2023). Naturally, Kal starts chatting with the owner. 1,400 HP at the wheels. Nice car!
The G2 owner said he was going to a German car show. The largest in America! Kal had never heard of DM, and had never visited the GCM (even though he lived in Richland for a time).
Kal made an on the spot decision to get out of work and drive 90 minutes north to Hickory Corners.
You already know the rest of the story: Kal won Best In Class for Audi.
Zero to hero in a matter of hours.
Congratulations
, Kal!

Depsite the weather, another record for DM - 568!

Parking map for DM 11

Hi Everyone,

Here’s our parking layout for DM11. It is similar to last year, but with some tweaks. As always, our amiable greeter Bradley S. Pines will direct you from the gate to the correct location. We are expecting another record number of cars! Show cars can enter beginning at 8:00 AM.
Special note: The BMW 2002 is our featured car this year. All 2002s will be parked in the same area. This will be a GREAT exhibit.
Similarly, we have a number of Porsche 356s coming from Detroit, Chicago and elsewhere.

The amazing story behind the poster car...

I grew up in a car family. We were in the Windy City chapter of the BMW Club my entire life, so vacations meant going to Road America, Mid Ohio or some other racetrack.

In the ’80s and ’90s, the BMW Club was filled with 2002’s, so I always dreamed of one as a kid.
When I turned 15, I finally got my own project 2002, which we found in the local BMW club newsletter (called the Breeze). The car came out of the Chicago suburbs.
This car started out life in the proper 1972 BMW color agave green. The car was being sold as an incomplete budget restoration where the owner was aborting the mission, but it had a fresh paint job in a later year/euro color called Jadegrun that I just loved. When we got it there was no carpet, the seats were worn, the motor weak and stumbling, but it was $1,300 and it was all mine! My dad and I got it into running shape and I daily drove it.
After a couple of years, I sold it to a guy in Chicago who later became a BMW Club member. He drove the car once a year to a Tire Rack/Windy City BMW charity event, which is how I came to reunite with the car. As the years clicked by, at every event I would ask him if this was the year that I could buy the car back from him. His answer was always the same, ‘It’s not your year.’
Finally, in 2012, 20 years after I sold the car and 13 years after I started asking for it back, he said ‘This is your year!”
We had to completely restore it - new carpet, seats, body, paint, brakes, tires, suspension, you name it. When trying to find a shop to restore the car, no one wanted to take it. It was too far gone most said, but I knew it could be returned to it’s original glory.
Out of all of my cars, this one is special to me because it’s the car that started it all, it’s where my love for cars began.
When resorting the car we made sure that only proper era modifications were made. The whole car was block sanded by hand, trim holes were closed with lead, we went traditional Weber carburetor, Stahl Headers, Panasport wheels, an Ansa Exhaust- all parts you could have purchased in the 70’s.
And most important, yes it still even has points.

Help us find the Poster Car for DM 11!

As we are finalizing our plans for our 11th annual show on July 8th, WE NEED YOUR HELP in finding our next featured poster car!!!
You've probably seen our annual posters similar to this one, which we utilize for advertising our show, promoting our sponsors, and highlighting our "featured marque" each year.
Where you come in: we need your help in finding our next poster car for....celebrating all things BMW!!! We are on the hunt for an interesting, unique, special, classic or iconic BMW that we can highlight on our 2023 poster.
Simply post a pic in the comments, or message us if you'd prefer, and we'll take a look and follow up! While its not required for the car to be at the show, its always nice to celebrate the poster car in person. ALL German cars are special - so show us what you've got - and THANK YOU for your help!
