If the weather gods allow, two special vehicles with be on display at DeutscheMarques 10 on July 9.
A 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K (with an incredible “unearthing” story) and the Museum’s replica 1886 Mercedes-Benz Motorwagen will be part of the show.
The Motorwagen is in running condition and we will try to coax Museum staff into running a couple of laps. The one-cylinder motor will give you plenty of time to get away!
The 540K was “buried” in the basement of an estate home in Germany to hide it from the Nazi’s. A ramp was excavated, a portion of the basement wall removed, and the car was driven into decades-long storage.
The wall was rebuilt, and a rose garden planted to hide the excavation work. The ruse was a success, and the car stayed with the family until recently.
You may remember this vehicle was our first “poster child.” It seemed appropriate to bring it back for our 10th anniversary show.
